Teams in parenthesis are projected. Teams without parenthesis in BCS bowls have clinched BCS berths, but not necessariliy for the game in which they are listed. Teams without parenthesis in non-BCS bowls have accepted bids to that game.
Conference tie-ins are listed for each game. In the case of the BCS games, those bowls could lose their tie-in teams to the title game. If that happens, that bowl can choose any BCS-eligible team to replace the team it lost and is not required to select one from the same conference as its tie-in.
In the case of non-BCS games, if there is a team listed that does not belong to the conference affiliated with that game, that means I am predicting that conference to not have enough bowl-eligible teams to fill that spot.
A note about bowl order within a conference - except for the champion, they do not necessarily relate directly to conference standings. For example, in the Big Ten, the Capital One bowl gets the second choice of teams from the Big Ten. They are not required to take the second place team. Conference tiebreakers are meaningless. Other things like TV appeal, fan interest, how recently a team has appeared in a bowl have more bearing than conference standings, within some reasonable parameters that vary from bowl to bowl.
